Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan III built the Aga Khan Palace in 1892. The Palace has a close link to the Indian freedom struggle for it was the prison where Mahatma Gandhi, wife Kasturba Gandhi & Sarojini Naidu were kept. This is the place where Kasturba Gandhi passed away. The commemoratory of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba Gandhi are built in the same complex, near river Mula. The palace has a number of memoirs closely flashing on life of Mahatma Gandhi and many other freedom fighters.
Shreemant Dagdusheth Ganapati Temple is a famous temple dedicated to the Hindu God Ganesha. This is visited by thousands of pilgrims every year; but the number of visitors is the highest at the time Ganeshotsav festival. The temple is more than 100 years old and is built with marble stone. It is built with such simplicity that all proceedings in the temple are visible even from the road outside. The daily aarti is worth attending along with numerous other cultural activities like bhajans , kirtans and Atharvasheersh recitation organized by the trust.
The Pataleshwar Cave Temple is a temple devoted to Lord Vishnu & Lord Shiva which is a rock-cut cave temple. It was carved out in the eighth century and was initially situated outside the town. The entire temple houses a linga; the symbol of Shiva and has two smaller cells on each side. In front of the cave is Nandi mandapam, its umbrella-shaped canopy which is supported by great square pillars. The Linga statue here is worshiped with butter and yogurt.
Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum holds the collection of art and documents related to Dr. Dinkar G. Kelkar in the memory of his son, Raja. The three-storey building has its sculptures that can date back to 14th century. The collection of these sculptures begun in 1920 and by the end of 1960, it had more than 15000 objects. The museum today has 20000 objects out of which only 2500 are kept on display. These are Indian articles from the day to day lives of the people in the eighteenth and the nineteenth century. The door frames, vessels, paintings and carvings represent examples of their native art.
The Bund Garden is commonly as the 'Mahatma Gandhi Udyan' as it has a bridge leading directly to the Gandhi National Memorial. It was originally intended as a dam for offering water for irrigation purposes. Today it is a calm, peaceful and serene place for people to rejuvenate. Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park is a very popular landmark in Pune that spreads over an area of more than 130 acres. It is divided into three parts, a snake park, an animal orphanage and a zoo. The Chaturshringi Temple is located on the slope of Senapati Bapat Road. It is known that it was built during the reign of Maratha king Shivaji. One needs to climb more than 100 steps before reaching the temple of Goddess. Chaturshringi has along with it temples of Goddess Durga and Lord Ganesh also. Shinde Chhatri is a memorial dedicated to eighteenth-century military leader Mahadaji Shinde who served as the commander-in-chief in Maratha army from 1760 to 1780. It is the most significant landmark in the city as it projects an intriguing look at the spectacular history, representing the rich cultural heritage of that time. The royal gate made of solid iron remains intact to this day.
